Overview

What is CaseWare?

CaseWare is the quiet backbone of the South African accounting and audit profession. Localised for the region by CaseWare Africa, it is where practices build their working papers, run audits and produce annual financial statements that comply with IFRS and IFRS for SMEs. The disclosure management is the draw: templates aligned to South African standards keep financial statements consistent and compliant, and updates roll out when the standards change so firms are not manually rewriting disclosures every year.

Beyond financial statements, the platform carries structured audit and review methodologies, so engagement teams follow a consistent, documented process from planning through to sign off, with the file, the evidence and the review notes all in one place. It integrates with the ledgers firms already use, pulling trial balances in rather than rekeying them. It is a professional tool sold to firms on a quotation and licence basis rather than a self service monthly price, and for most SA auditors it is simply part of the furniture.

Mostly smooth, occasionally frustrating

Based in Nelspruit, serving clients across Mpumalanga. It integrates with the Pastel and Sage ledgers our clients already run. The learning curve is steep, a new clerk needs weeks before they are productive.

Cons

Quote based licensing.

Good, with a few honest gripes

Every review note, every piece of evidence and the sign off all live in one engagement file. Gets the job done, room to improve.

Pros

The profession already knows it; structured audit methodology; consolidations handled.

Cons

Template setup takes effort.
